Warning - The Language Barrier

I've always been fascinated with language. how some languages are similar that when you know one, you can pretty much figure out the other. and the way some languages have similar words for the same thing even though you might think that the two languages are completely unrelated (ie: the spanish word for fireman is bombero, in malay its bomba). or how some languages have the same words which means completely different things (ie: seronok in malay is fun whilst seronok in bahasa indonesia has a negative connotation, leaning towards slutty).

its also interesting to note that animals speak differently too! dont believe me? check this out.

see what I mean?

onto more serious matters. have you seen these type of things floating around newspapers and billboards?

i'm pretty sure you have. gross isnt it? disturbing isnt it? gives you nightmares doesnt it? i reckon the new packaging did a great job in grossing people out. but does it really work? i dont think so. apart from traumatising the faint hearted non-smokers like me, the campaign isnt doing much. how do i know?

exhibit 1 - the carton of cigarettes in the picture above is my dad's
exhibit 2 - dude's bf continues to smoke albeit the gross pictures on the packs
exhibit 3 - patron of the mamak store: mamak! kotak rokok lain takde ke? yang ni geli la.

i think smokers are completely missing the point here. the pictures are meant to deter you from smoking, not make you ask for a different pack. seriously. i wonder what it takes.

destroyer of worlds

i haven't written anything about kamen rider in a while so here goes.

this year's kamen rider is decade.

a pink rider? they've ran out of cool colours

this time round its special since decade travels to other heisei riders' universes. in the first episode this dude came up to decade/tsukasa kadoya amidst his crumbling world and told him that in order to save his world, he has to go and destroy the other worlds. or something. we're up to the 9th episode now and we've gone through:

kuuga (from the year 2000)

kiva (2008)

ryuki (2002)

and blade (2004)

at first i thought they were gonna go about this chronologically since kuuga is the first rider from the heisei era. but then they jumped to kiva's world so that theory basically went down the drain. and they made changes to the characters and storyline as well. i didnt know this when they went through kuuga's world since i've only seen 5 out of the 9 previous rider series (ryuki, hibiki, kabuto, den-o, kiva). so when they arrived at kiva's world, i expected to see seto koji as kurenai wataru but instead got this little kid who played the small kandou jan in gekiranger. its interesting to see how things unfold in this whole alternate universe thing.

moving on, decade henshins using this card system and he can henshin into other riders as well using these cards that he has.

Justify Fulldecade card on the left, kuuga card on the right

his signature rider kick thingamagig (called final attack ride) reminds me a bit of den-o's rod form, where den-o would chuck the rod through a series of hexagonal shapey thingeys. decade does his kick through a series of card shapey thingeys. its really quite awesome.

final attack rider

its way too early to tell whats going on, as in who the bad guys are. seems like someone's been going around the other riders' world telling them that an evil rider called decade is gonna turn up and destroy their worlds so when he does turn up, all the riders start to attack him. but in the end he saves everyone and their worlds anyway. so i guess i'll just have to wait and see. anyone wanna wait and see with me?

Mr Manhattan

Nope, I don't get it either.

Monday, March 23, 2009

it's been a while since i properly finished my tertiary education. and i'm wondering whether i should get off my bum and start to properly look for a job. i mean, a month or 2 at home doing nothing is certainly nice but i cant help feeling like my brain is going rusty from the lack of doing brain challenging activities. sure, watching poorly translated kamen rider dvds require an enormous amount of brain power but it totally falls short to the daily neuron stimulations i encountered during my uni days.

speaking of stimulations, have you ever felt the need to touch something after you've taken a look at it? case in point. went to my cousin's house warming on saturday. they took out their wedding photos (they got married on the 31st of January this year). and the photo paper of the, well, photos, looked textured and i just had to touch it to see whether the feel of the thing matches what i'm seeing. same goes for all of the albums that they took out. awesome isnt it? Multisensory Aesthetic Experience (mae).

mae is a band i've been listening to for quite a while. their music is really pretty. why are they multisensory? because they have these little pictures in their cd booklet and you're supposed to look at the pictures while you listen to the songs. cool huh? although i never really do that whole multisensory thing because lets face it, how long can you stare at a non-moving picture. my attention span just wont permit it.

isnt it just an awesome concept though? imagine if you could capture not just the sights and sounds, but the smell, taste, and basically the feel of a moment. wouldnt it be awesome, if years down the road, you'd be able to let your kids smell the rain at your wedding, or have a taste of your wedding cake? hmm, fancy that.

on to the subject of cakes and the like. i'm off to bake a pudding. apparently my sister dreamt i made queens pudding a few nights ago which is her brain telling her i havent been making anything sweet for tea in a while now. my grandad seems to like it to so i should definitely bring some round for lunch.

oh, before i go. earth hour! have you signed up? switch off all your electrical appliances (lights, fans, pcs and the like) this saturday (28th March) from 8.30pm for a whole hour in support of Earth Hour. if KL Tower can join in why not us? it'll be nice to be engulfed in complete darkness once in a while eh? oh, and make sure you guys are somewhere familiar when you're in the dark or you'd probably bump into all sorts of things.

I &hearts Mraz

went to his concert last night and i only have 1 word. adorkable. hehe. he's awesome. that tshirt he's wearing in the pic, it says i ♥ kl. how awesome is that?

the concert was at stadium negara and never have i seen it so full. it wasnt that full when inxs played there and it wasnt that full even when muse had their concert there. the air was just humid and stagnant (at least at the rock zone anyway). but it was well fun. he's an awesome singer (vocal range up there with mariah carey) and an awesome performer. even managed to put in bits of wonderwall (oasis's song) into one of his songs (you and i both methinks) which i thought was just awesome.

his band was equally awesome. the brass band (all 3 of them) were wearing malaysia's football jersey. you know, the black and yellow stripey one, instantly endearing themselves to everyone who went to the concert, despite the weird situation and the heavy criticism the football team is under right now.

he played all the songs that i hope he would except wordplay and curbside prophet. but songs like life is wonderful and dynamo volition more than made up for those songs' absence. he really had the crowd going. despite the (almost) unbearable heat. and he must've said thank you in every language known to the modern man.

all in all he's worthy of every 'awesome' in this post and certainly more. right at the end he said it certainly wont be their last visit to malaysia. i'm really counting on that.

help the aged

greetings earthlings!!

after 42 days, i finally found the energy to rant. that surely is a sign that i'm getting old right? before, i had so much life in me that i'd blog/rant about pretty much anything. nowadays, i could full well have met the prime minister and still manage to skip the blogging/ranting.

another, very obvious sign of getting old is when you put different shoes on. which was exactly what happened to me 2 days ago. we (me, mum, and sisters) were supposed to catch Puteri Gunung Ledang the Musical when i decided to wear my sister's shoes which went so well with my outfit (that and i cant be bothered to look for my own shoes). obviously, my size 8/9 feet (huge arent they?) felt really uncomfortable in my sister's size 6 shoes (how i manage to even fit in them is really a mystery in itself). so i decided to take them off during the ride there.

when we got to istana budaya, dude dropped off me and mum near the entrance so she could go look for parking with the other 2 girls. i quickly put my (or rather, my sister's) shoes on, and got out the car. here's how it went after dude drove off and i took 2 steps:

me : gyah! (pause in disbelief) mama!! look at my shoes!!
mum: khairun nisaa.. macam mane awak boleh pakai kasut sebelah lain sebelah lain?
me: ntah. kite main sarung je tadi.
mum: ha, padan la muke. try and call your along.
me: can i use your phone?
mum: (exasperated) go on then. try speed dial 4.
me: (tried speed dial 4 but stopped when my phone rang. dialled dude's number while running after car)
nurul: hello?
me: nurul, get along to stop the car. i sarung the wrong shoe on.
nurul: (speaking very slowly) ape? how did you pakai the wrong one?
me: does it matter? suro je la along stop. (still chasing after the car)

the car stopped and after about a minute of all out running, i got to the car, put the correct shoe on amidst the 'you joker' and the 'how did you manage to pakai the wrong kasut?', and walked back, very uncomfortably, to where mum was. the 3 hours that i had to spend in those shoes resulted in blisters which hurt up till now.

so, moral of the story, you cant avoid getting old. but what you can avoid is, wearing shoes that are too small for your feet, no matter how well they go with your outfit.

onto the real blog worthy part. puteri gunung ledang the musical!! i was pleasantly surprised during the show. lets face it though, the only musical theatre experience that i have are the school musical i was involved in (lighting crew, christmas production of Oliver Twist) and the tonnes of anime derived musicals (Prince of Tennis Musicals and Bleach Musicals). it really didnt take much to pleasantly surprise me. to tell you the truth, i fell in love with the show right at the beginning when the announcer said that there'll be pyrotechnics involved.

aside the awesome fireworks, i have never seen (or heard) a man hold a note for what must've been a full minute or possibly more. that man is stephen rahman-hughes (the dude who plays hang tuah). 2 words. massive lungs. naturally, when i got home, i just had to google him. turns out, he's actually 1 and a half a person, being, according to wikipedia, "half english, half pakistani and half malaysian". bwahaha. he's awesome. anyone who's made of three halves is a tick in my book.

eeyaa~ thats enough for now. told you i'm getting old. its 1.40am and i can hardly keep my eyes open. back when i was younger, i could stay up all night and still manage to concentrate in class.

well then, bye now!

a trip down memory lane

yaho~

how's everyone doing? good i hope. been blogging a lot lately eh? there doesnt seem anything better to do around here (note: looking for a job does not count as something better to do).

anyhow, we went to langkawi last week. it was a much needed break for all of us i have to say and a family vacation was well overdue. we've been to langkawi as a family before. here are some pix from then.

yep. that was from 20 odd years ago. that's me and my grandad. i only got up to his waist here. lol. here's one from last week.

haha. you cant really see how much i grew in those 20 years in this photo. but i'm a little bit taller than him now. i probably weigh more too. nyahaha. here are some more.

that's me and my big sis 20 years ago
.
.
.
.

that's us last week

yep. i'm taller than her now too. back then you could actually see that she's a whole 3 years older than i am. now people just think we're twins.

throughout the whole trip, my gran and grandad couldnt stop comparing the langkawi 20 years ago to the langkawi now. it was cute. but really, 20 years is a long time. i mean, back then, i didnt even have any baby sisters.

there are tonnes of other photos. it was well fun. we should definitely do it more often. but its kinda hard to get everyone together at one time. i almost didnt go to this trip. the plane was then ready and we were going to do the flight test that weekend.

but in the end, i'm glad i went. (^_^)

Tagged??!!

oh yeah, i also realised that i was tagged by aisha. that came as a bit of a surprise since i thought that the only readers i have are me and my big sister (who only reads it when i ask her to). sad, i know. ten random things huh? hmmm. thats a bit complicated since i'm about as random as a solid crystalline structure *shoots herself on the foot for being so lame*. i'll give it a try anyway, so here goes.

10 Random Things about Khairun 'Pyro' Baharuddin

1. I dont have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) but when it comes to leaving the car after i've driven, i'd always have to keep checking and rechecking whether i've locked it. better safe than sorry eh?

2. i have an innate fear of butterflies (mottephobia)

3. i need my daily caffeine fix otherwise i'd get a real head hurt, or worse, i'd get really cranky

4. i love to sing out loud to whatever i'm listening to. even when i dont know the words. it drives other people up the wall but its great at getting rid of stress

5. i love citrusy smells

6. i get all goosebumpy when kamen rider does his signature move, and when naruto uses his rasengan/rasen-shuriken, and when any shinigami releases their bankai

7. if i get scared at night (which sometimes happens), it still makes me feel better to sleep with the light on

8. i cant sleep without my feet covered up by my duvet or blankie. not too sure why, but i bet it has something to do with people saying that toyols suck your blood out from your big toe

9. i'm slightly IT-challenged

10. whenever i'm tired, i tend to say things wrongly, like mixing up the consonants and vowels in a word. been happening a lot lately

fuh~ i made it. that took ages. anyhow, here's the part thats even harder. i have to tag other people too. meh. most of the blogs i read have already been tagged. lets see then. the chosen ones are

una
faiz
nad
jimin
lutfi

there you go. i know some of you might have been tagged before, but wheres the harm in putting a few more details eh? so, no pressure. do it if and when you have the time k?

Nyahahahaha!!!!

did you see the video? did you? did you??? that, ladies and gentlemen, was the freewing rc plane scratch built by your resident fire lover and her partner ida. it actually flew (not that i was surprised of course). here are the (approximated) project stats ...

243 hours of thinking
16 hours of cutting & sawing
24 hours of sanding & filing
15 hours of gluing
43.8 hours of being confused
19 hours of making mistakes
3 hours of being lost in ara damansara
12 hours in the car
198 hours in the lab
3.5 hours of being laughed at by the RC community
2 minutes of flight attempts
27 seconds of successful flight

like i said before, these are all approximated figures, which roughly means its completely inaccurate and unreliable. but all those things did happen, which is to say, yep, we did all the thinking, and we did the gluing, and we did get lost and, and, sure as heck, we got confused a lot too. and i mean A LOT. the whole free wing thing is rather new, even by modern aviation standards. and there arent a lot of literature on it so it was pretty much a 'figure-it-out-as-we-go-along' process. the situation got so bad that we were confused by units even when we had a calculator and unit converter. i mean, why would you divide units into sixteenths anyway? divide them into tenths like normal people.

but then again, the 27 seconds of flight was worth every second of being tired, stressed out and, generally, being in total agony over this project. now i know maybe a millionth of what it felt like when the Wright Bros managed to get Kitty Hawk up in the air. kudos to the pilot, mr wan though, who managed to fly the thingamagigy. he knew zilch about the free wing but put in so much effort to help us anyway. he's awesome. and you shouldve seen him land our plane. it was a belly landing (since our landing gear got torn off in the first flight attempt). not a scratch on the plane. it just sort of floated softly to the ground.

all in all its been crap load of craziness. the past few weeks especially had been so tiring but worthwhile. and now, i can go back to being a normal person and not someone who wakes up early, goes to bed late, and spends two thirds of the day in a lab/workshop building with no regard as to how i look.

mieru!!!

i can see it!! the light!!! i can see the light!!!

but then again, i have really good eyesight. so even when the light at the end of the tunnel is miles away, i'd still be able to see it. call it optimism.

seriously though, we're so close now. after god knows how long of being frustrated/annoyed/depressed/demoralised (delete where appropriate), i reckon we're almost there. but i think i'll stop talking about it for now. dont wanna jinx it. fingers crossed everyone!!!

went to get some stuff for the project on sunday (or was it monday? tuesday? sometime this week anyway) and as always, i got a bit distracted (being distracted comes oh so easily). spent ages browsing through the limited albeit cheap books at this bookstore in amcorp mall and finally...

jya~n. its the 33rd book in the discworld series and, as expected, its absolutely hilarious. i lo~ve terry pratchett's discworld. i'm still laughing from the last discworld book that i read (small gods). its awesome times infinity squared!! lighthearted and smart. like this from Going Postal on page 35.

" 'Apprentice Postman Stanley,' mumbled Groat. 'Orphan, sir. Very sad. Came to us from the Siblings of Offler charity home, sir. Both parents passed away of the Gnats on their farm out in the wilds, sir, and he was raised by peas.'
'Surely you mean on peas, Mr Groat?'
'By peas, sir. Very unusual case. A good lad if he doesn't get upset but he tends to twist towards the sun, sir, if you get my meaning.' "

Hahahaha. That's hilarious. anyone who tells me otherwise has no sense of humour and should go find some. you should read the part about the number pi. there's always some theories and stuff and sometimes it all makes complete sense.

there was this one bookstore that i went to where they put terry pratchett under the children section. thats a bit unfair i think coz adults wont go near the children section so they wont ever get to know how awesome a writer he is. i'm slowly collecting all the discworld series. and i mean verry slowly. slower than a glacier. which is a bit of a shame and is exactly why i should get off of my bum and start looking for a job.

enough fangirling. the weirdest thing happened just now. i was texting faiz and then suddenly my fingers went faster than my brain. i'd only just worked out what i wanted to write but when i looked at the screen i realised i'd already written it. that cant be right can it? fingers thinking for themselves and making their own decision. its like a decentralized organizational structure (rare chance of applying my organizational behaviour knowledge). next thing i know they'll be painting their nails pink and signing up for marathons without me knowing.

right then. i'm off. have to wake up early tomorrow to get some stuff for the project. somehow or other we'd always end up realizing that we need something important a day after out trip to Ara Damansara and/or SS2. call it poor planning? yep, that sounds about right. but in my defense, we're only just learning.

Freeeedoooom

well, for most people anyway. for me and ida, it was back to the lab once the poster exhibition is over. the day was tiring enough as it is, what with the standing and sitting around. but once we got to the lab, it was a whole new kind of tired. we'd left this carbon epoxy composite to cure overnight and somehow it got stuck on the table. and now we kinda have to do the damn wing all over again. that makes the score = Wing - 3, IdaKiren - 0.

i know murphy's law applies to each and everyone of us but i'm starting to think that it applies itself a little too well to our final year project. there was that wing thing. and then the other day it was the glue thing. nope, i didnt get my hand stuck on the table top with industrial glue although that option seems rather more enjoyable compared to having to do the wing again. i went and bought this glue after carefully reading the label which clearly says its foam safe. so what happened after i put the glue on the foam? it completely dissolved like a whole section of my wing of course. hah! i bet you didnt know that foam dissolves did you? and by foam i mean polystyrene foam, not shower foam because why on earth would you put glue on that kinda foam?

so back to the poster exhibition. the dude who was paid to evaluate us was from DCA (department of civil aviation). nothing went past him. you should've seen his face. he didnt just look at you. he was looking at your brain. like how your brain is functioning and your thought process. i was planning to just wing it (geddit? WING it? hahaha) but after i saw what happened to hadi and upin, i actually thought up a structured way of doing things.

the real fun of the day came, not from the exhibition itself (obviously), but from the final moments spent with my coursemates. thats it then you lot. i doubt i'd be seeing much of yous after this, which will take some getting used to after seeing you guys roughly everyday of every week for the past 3 years. remember, you guys are buying me lunch with your first paycheck. you'll definitely be missed (sounds morbidly like an obit eh?).

from left:- fizah, mai, fza, ida, sara, james aka cheong, upin, hadi

danny the movie star who wants to sell us bonds and give us his signature

pesot showing off the back of his poster which he tore off on purpose so that fza could win

anyways, congratulations to all those who are graduating. may you find jobs as soon as is possible.

mask of justice

jyajya~n!!

(in a tv-show-announcer-like-voice)
2nd from the left, standing 1.8m tall and weighing 95kg, its Nega Den-O!!! Next, its Kamen Rider Rising Ixa. With a punching power of 20tonnes and a kicking power of 12tonnes, this kamen rider will surely beat any fangire to pulp. and on the right, with a shiny gold armour and a maximum kicking power of 150tonnes (Emperor Moon Break), its Kiva's Emperor Form. oh yeah, and last but by no means least, its Negataros (far left), the imagin who wreaked havoc by teaming up with the fangires.

heheh. lookie look look! i used my raya money to get them. cool arent they? i personally like Kiva's emperor form the most. there's something really awesome about the whole regal look.

i kinda wonder about the target audience of kamen rider shows. i mean, i doubt that kids understand the plot. heck, i dont understand the plot sometimes. take kamen rider den-o for instance. it took me a looong time to process all that info what with the time being destroyed and then restored and the sister's fiance being zeronos and all. seriously, there's more drama in the last 15 episodes of den-o then the whole 90+ episodes of Bella (not that i was watching of course).

therefore, you guys should try watching kamen rider. the action sequence and the effects arent half bad either. but its the plot that would really keep you glued to your seats.

as some of you might have already known, i'm a bit of a stalker. not in a bad way of course. i just like to read people's blogs and make my own assumptions about what goes on in their heads. so there i was, reading people's blogs, when i noticed a massive difference between their posts and mine. other people's entries are always so deep. mine is shallower than the kiddy pool outside of klcc. so i thought to myself 'you've got to post something deep' and i started writing. to my huge disappointment, i never got further than two lines. guess you can't fake depth huh? gyahahaha!!

today we (042 aerospace students) went to wangsa maju for lunch. it was really rather impromptu and fizah ended up missing her last aircraft design class but it was well fun. somehow or other we ended up main teka-teki, like we did during our last outing. here's one. its from petet.

"there are 4 fish in a fish tank. one day, one of the fish dies. the next day, the owner of the fish tank found that the water in the tank was almost at the top. why?"

the tank was almost full because...
(scroll down for the answer)

the other three fish were crying!!!

dont look at me. petet came up with the teka-teki...

hello blog, hello people who read this blog (if there are any), been a while hasnt it?

selamat hari raya~

are you done stuffing your faces yet? i reckon the face stuffing gala is only just beginning. prepare your stomachs for more food cause i bet this weekend will bring you even more open houses. isnt raya great? (^_^)

i couldnt sleep two nights ago. it was horrible. i got back to my room from the lab sometime past 11pm. after settling down, i thought i'd catch up on a bit of naruto. after watching 2 one-hour episodes of naruto, i was still wide awake. it was past 2am by then. so i thought i'd just try and sleep but a few minutes of tossing and turning made me realise that my efforts are absolutely futile.

after a few more moments of wondering what i should do (none of which involved getting up and studying), i stumbled across a brilliant idea. baba toru and ookawa genki (yagyu and akaya from tenimyu) both came out with this cd where they count sheep. its called the hitsujide oyasumi series and its basically them counting sheep accompanied by soothing background music. i thought i'd give it a listen and see if it'll help...

baba toru: hitsuji ga ippiki (1 sheep), hitsuji ga niihiki (2 sheep), hitsuji ga sanbiki (3 sheep)...

(half an hour later)

baba toru: hitsuji ga sanbyakuniijuuhiki (320 sheep), hitsuji ga sanbyakuniijuuippiki (321 sheep)...

lets just say that all this would only have been useful if i were a farmer in japan who has 400 sheep.

hitsuji ga juuniihiki....

good day minna!!

if i read the writing correctly, it says that i last published a post in my blog more than 6 months ago. heheh. thats more than half a year ago for those who are mathematically challenged. its not my fault (it never is). i think i have blogger's block. i was this close to following the footsteps of kma and closing down the blog, being the waste of cyberspace it is. but i cant bring myself round to it. me sayang this blog. i wrote some weird stuff in here that i wanna look back at when i'm old. i wanna be able to show my grandkids that gramma was not always a grumpy old lady with no sense of humour.

anyhow, the new sem started (seems like whenever i blog, its always the start of the sem). my timetable is rather kosong this time around. its 2 classes a day. which so far has been a blessing since i have loadsa loose ends to tie up. i still havent got a place for my practical training and i have to get my exams sorted out. the exams are horrible though. its 3 papers in 3 days (decision science, marketing and english). but i guess i shouldnt be complaining. ii couldve been aircraft structures, flight mech and fdc. so yeah, i'm thankful.

anyways, thats it for now. dont wanna flood my own blog. heheh. take care kids. adios y hasta luego.

mor~ning everyone!!!

been in a really cheery mood lately. despite the horrid weather. minna minna wa?? probably has lots to do with me watching kiddy shows, which is taking up more and more of my time. its like an addiction. actually no, more like pringles come to think of it. once i pop...

i watched ultraman mebius the movie the other day. iya~. mecha mecha kakkoii!!! the ultra brothers were in it too. taro, ace and some other ones too old for me to even remember. the movie was to celebrate ultraman's 40 year's anniversary. watcing it made me start reminiscing...you know, of my youth. ahh yes. youth is wasted on the young. ah ah urotoraman!!! (song in the movie)

anyways, was lazing about at the grandparents' with atok and my sisters and cousins tonight, when suddenly, jeng jejeng!!! in flew this crazy flying buzzing creature and all the children (plus myself) went EEEEEE!!!!

cousin: ape tu??!!!
me: burung!!!
atok: kelawar tu...
little cousin: lastik karang...
paksu: riang riang la...

the arrival of the strange creature sort of put the occupants of the living room in a state of panic. or was it just me. either way, when it finally stopped being crazy and flying around the room and rested on the window.

atok: owh, kupu-kupu...
me (trying to make myself smaller, hence invisible to the kupu-kupu): EEEKKK!!!
dengki cousin: meh ana amek, kasi kat angah...
me: woih!!! baik jangan!!! (trying to sound threatening but failing miserably)
little cousin: lastik karang...
me: *runs off into grandparents' room*

five minutes later and the room was slightly calmer now that the kupu-kupu wasnt flying about maniacally. enter, nenek.

nenek: apehalnye??
cousins: kat lampu tu!!
nenek: owh belalang....
me (and possibly others in the living room): ???
atok: mane pulak belalang, nenek ni...
little cousin: lastik karang...

and there it was. an evening with the grandparents. some scenes have been altered due to the writer's bad memory...

i'll stop here for now. starting to get hungry so i better go to sleep (???). final exam in 4 days time. wish me luck!! gambarimasu!!! stay outta trouble. adios y hasta luego. ja!

buenas noches girls and boys!!!

i was very productive today. i woke up early (early by my standards anyway) and went to the bookfair. huwa~ so ramai the manusia. before that i went to klcc to buy tickets to see spiderman. it was 10.30 when i got there and the line was all the way until chili's. i almost lost 50 sen in a bet with dude about the amount of people that was gonna be lining up that early in the morning. we lined up for a bit but then thought that chances are we wouldnt be able to get tickets for today anyway, so we quit and made our way to the bookfair. it was fun. i got myself a book by neil gaiman (which i've started reading even though i still havent finished the other book by him and pratchett) and another one by dean koontz, which i found out, 5 seconds ago, dude already has. ah well. she has it in paperback. i bought a hard cover version.

anyhow, the short sem started. i've been to 3 classes. i dread going to the 4th. its so boring. the lecturer just reads from the slides whilst the rest of the class look on sedately at him (or rather, at the wall, shoelaces, writings on the desks, the door, the window, u catch my drift). whats worse is that half of us dont even understand him. now, i'm usually good at understanding people's accents but his is just on a whole other level. i got an insight of this in the first class when he asked fana a question.

lecturer: sister, can you name an electronic instrument?
fana: erm, resistor?
lecturer: no sister, a component...
fana: i'm not sure sir
lecturer: you know, instrument, like the ones you used in your matriculation. didnt you use any? you know, like full matter.

so lets stop there for a bit. at this point, me and fana were already looking at each other with severely confused expressions on our faces. we searched our brains and think back to roughly around 2 years ago when we did experiments in physics lab in matric. nope, never came across an instrument called full matter. sounds biological to me. anyways, here's the rest of it.

fana: i dont think we've ever used that sir.
lecturer: you've never used? even in high school? you've never used it in the lab?
fana: erm, no
lecturer: so you've never used it to measure the foltage?

now this is the funny bit. what everyday physical quantity rhymes with foltage? by the time we all realised that what he'd been trying to say was voltmeter, and not something biological at all, well, you can just imagine the decibel level which resulted in more than 20 people laughing. which i thought was mean. you shouldnt laugh at your lecturers. its bad karma. having said that, i really wish i could've seen my expression when i was holding back the laughter. probably looked slightly psychotic.

and so, a very interesting start to the class. a bit short lived though since all of the following classes have been tedious. but i guess i'll just have to bare with it and hope that there are loads more holidays coming in the next 2 months.

last sem was, i reckon, a good one. there were a lot of records set but at the end of the sem, it seemed like i did something right after all. which i thought was weird. for example, last sem was the sem that i skipped the most classes. and last sem's finals saw me work my way through 4 papers in 4 consecutive days with a 1 day gap followed by 2 papers in 2 days. but the hectic schedule did not deter me from watching kamen rider kabuto and the prince of tennis musicals. as i sat there watching 'the man who carries out the rule of the heavens', i thought to myself, 'your luck will surely run out now mate. you cant be watching kamen rider when you have BM tomorrow and aerodynamics the day after and control systems after that and ethics on sunday. you better prepare yourself for ayah's wrath'. even my roomate who had 4 day gap did more studying than me. thank god everything worked out alright in the end. i doubt my cgpa could drop any further.

i reckon thats it for now. i should get some sleep. there's class tomorrow. or i might just save all that sleeping for tomorrow's class. the amount of input wouldve been the same compared to when i'm awake anyway, what with the full matters and the sequits (thats circuits for those of you who are acccent-challenged). adios y hasta luego.

afternoon all!!!

i dont really feel like blogging right now but i dont really have anything to do. my GEN class got cancelled. technically, not cancelled. dr abdi told us to go to the KERIE exhibition thingamagig. dont ask me what KERIE stands for because i dont have a single clue. so i went there for like 5 minutes to look around at the final projects and stuff and off i went (cukup syarat je).

i was reading blogs just now and apparently these short-posts-while-waiting-for-class are quite frequent occurrences. so i thought, might as well have a go. its better than doing zilch right? otherwise jadi macam devon sawa in 'idle hands' (hella funny movie). would've gone back to my room but theres no point really since there's nothing to amuse me anyway. i still havent 'hangkut' my stuff to uni. not even bed sheets and all those necessary stuff to make a room, well, a room.

and so the obsession escalates. i'm a few steps away from having his name tattoed on my _____ (fill in the blank). hahaha!!! listening to him right now actually. he's so hot. was watching alexander and lord of war a few nights ago and those films did nothing but fuel my obsession even further. wish they didnt cut some scenes from alexander though. killjoy.

anyways, thats all for now. wanna go fill in my empty and roaring tummy with some nice hot food. hasta luego boys and girls. stay outta trouble.

wats up everyone..

its me, ur resident pyrophile here. still alive, still on holiday, and still a pyrophile. i checked out the tagboard section and una says i've only got 1 post for the holiday. true that. sorry to make you tertunggu dear! i havent got anything to rant about. actually, thats not true. i have loads to rants about tapi when i get in front of the computer, i could never think of any.

you know that abba song 'thank you for the music'? well, if you dont, then your parents should. haha. usually, when i'm in a particularly stressful situation, i'd put my headphone on, turn the music up really loud and sing along. this usually happens in uni since there are way more stressful situations there than there are at home. so i guess, when faced with difficulty, i am really thankful for the music. however, i can think of quite a few people who probably wish that they'd never heard of music. or to be more precise, wish that I had never heard of music.

honestly, have you ever had the misfortune of listening to me sing at the top of my lungs? if you havent, lucky you. i mean, when i'm singing along with the headphone on, i cant really hear myself. so i never really knew the extent of my horrid singing, until one day, when my brilliant roomates decided to do a little bit of recording. when i first heard it, my initial reaction was 'are you sure thats me?'. yep, i was full of denial. but then, i thought, who else sings along to 30 seconds to mars? and then the sad truth struck me. and i was suddenly taken over by uncontrollable fits of laughter. i bet you've seen william hung's infamous audition footage right? well, thats comparable to my singing, minus the dance moves.

okay then. thats enough of making a complete fool out of myself for today. lets move on shall we? i was cleaning up my room this morning and i came across this article titled 'the school football bible'. so i reckon, instead of me ranting on about arsenal's current situation (rather pathetic, to put it lightly, lost the last 2 games against weaker opponents), i'll just share with you the article.

THE SCHOOL FOOTBALL BIBLE

Duration

Matches shall be played over three unequal period: two playtimes and a lunchtime

Each of these periods shall shortly after the ringing of a bell, and although a bell is also rung towards the end of these periods, play may continue for up to ten minutes afterwards, depending on the nihilism or "bottle" of the participants with regard to corporal punishment et out to latecomers back to the classroom.
In practice, there is a sliding scale of nihilism, from those who hasten to stand in line as soon as the bell rings, known as "poofs", through through those who will hang on until the time they estimate it takes the teachers to down the last of their gins and journey from the staffroom, known as "chancers" and finally to those who will hang on until a teacher actually has to physically retrieve them, known as "bampots".

This sliding scale is intended to radically alter the logistics of a match in progress, often having dramatic effects on the scoreline as the number of participants drops.

It is important, therefore, in picking the sides, to achieve a fair balance of poofs, chancers and bampots in order that the scoreline achieved over a sustained period of play - a lunchtime for instance - is not totally nullified by a five-minute-post-bell onslaught of five bampots against one.

The scoreline to be carried over from the previous period of the match is in the trust of the last bampots to leave the field of play, and maybe the matter of some debate. This must be resolved in one of the approved manners (see Adjudication).

-end of part one-

there's still a long way to go till we could khatam the school football bible. but i'll leave it till later coz you guys might get bored. honestly though, reading that brings me back to my childhood days when i sometimes go down to watch the guys i fancy play during lunchtime. those were the days. i remember fancying this prefect. his name's martin bell and he's a friend of my best friend's big brother. i reckon he was a good player. but he doesnt get to play all the time since he's a prefect and sometimes he has to do his rounds down the english corridor. he does modern dance too. i remember watching him dance about with a bunch of girls (he was the only guy) during the christmas concert. i also remember being unable to decide my feelings for him after watching the performance, coz frankly, it all seemed rather gay. ah yes, a trip down memory lane is always fun.

getting back to present times, people say you get your best ideas while in the shower. something to do with the amount of oxygen being higher and therefore more work in the brain or whatnot. whatever is the cause, i think it hella true. i get so many ideas on rants but they seem to get left behind in the shower when i'm done. its so weird. maybe next time i should bring the laptop with me. actually, thats not too smart is it? maybe just a permanent marker pen and a piece of waterproof paper.

anyways, lets forget about them silly ideas because i think i'm in love.*swoon* with jared leto.*double swoon*. i cant get enough of him. this other night, i was about to go to bed. but, out of nowhere, i thought about how gorgeous he was in 'from yesterday' and 'the kill' and i just had to turn my computer back on and watch it again. i ended up watching the video, the making and some live performances. well, lets just say i tak jadi go to bed anymore. its been that way for a couple of nights now. and as side effects, i've developed rather large dark circles around my eyes, more popularly known as eyebags. i'm not sure whether to do something about it or to just leave it because apparently, instead of looking like a raccoon, it looks like i applied some eyeshadow on.

well, i think i should be off now. thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening. nanti kene modem susah pulak. so stay outta trouble girlies and boys!! adios y hasta luego.

khairun 'chancer' baharuddin

ps: if you dont believe me about how goegeous jared leto is in 'from yesterday', take a look see yourself.

hello all...

missed me? heheh. bet you did. sorry for the long absence. had a pretty bad spell of writer's laziness. i had all these thoughts in my head that i'd love to blog down, but i never got round to it. i was never online anyway, and when i was actually on, i was busy (a) downloading bleach/supernatural/naruto, (b) updating myself on football issues or (c) looking up things that dont really have to be looked up, ie: the lyrics to 'a shoulder to cry on' by tommy page.

on holiday right now (big massive cheer accompanied by a spray of confetti). been looking forward to this. exams were nothing short of horrendous. so the 2-week holiday was really welcomed. even if it is really really (and i mean really) short. havent really done anything worth talking about so far. except for maybe the fact that i'm taking my driving lessons (finally). so watch out people! soon, i will be a driver on the road, instead of a pedestrian/passenger. honestly, i dont know what kind of a driver i'd be. a good, berhemat one i hope. i mean, i've listened enough to my parents (and recently, my big sis and friends) going on about how the road is full of moronic drivers (to put it lightly). hopefully i wont be referred to as one of those.*shudder* anyhow, driving is something i've dreamed of doing for so long. strangely enough, whenever i dream of driving, the car that i drive always happens to be a bmw. thats got to mean something right?

another thing that i always dream about is smoking. thats really weird since i consider it a really disgusting and nasty habit (no offense to those who smoke). think about it, smoking's harmful to your health and the smell sticks to everything (hair, clothes, curtains). anyways, i was really curious as to why i kept having dreams where i smoke and i thought that maybe i was meant to be a smoker otherwise i wont be having those dreams so often. so one fine day, i decided to satisfy my curiosity and try it myself. i bought a pack of salem lights and when i got home, i went straight to my room and hid it under my matress knowing full well that my parents would hit the roof if they ever found out.

over the next few days i kept looking for an opportunity to take a drag (that is the proper term isnt it?). and when the opportunity finally came, i hurried up and opened the cigarette pack excitedly. i took one out, lit it and, well, i started smoking. now, the thing that happened after i took my first drag was, to me, totally unexpected. soon as i inhaled that horrid cigarette smoke, i started coughing and sputtering. i began to wonder why it is that people smoke when, to me, smoking is comparable to licking the roadside. at least thats what i imagined the roadside to taste like anyway.

the next day i got a mild fever. hahah!! serves me right. i guess my whole body just went into shock from purposely inhaling lethal fumes. so i said to myself 'never again, mate, never again', without being too dramatic. i reckon those 5 something ringgit was the worst ever money spent. i still have the pack of salem lights. its still hiding under my matress. i dont want to throw it away for nostalgic reasons. haha. so after reading this, i hope none of you get the sudden urge to start smoking. its really really bad for you. nothing good ever comes out of smoking. this is a public service announcement.

i guess thats it for now. there's just so much you can write at 4.20 in the morning right? so i'll be back later with more rants. stay outta trouble kids. adios y hasta luego.
